The word ‘bat’ can strike fear into the heart of even the most practiced developer. Bats don’t need to be a figure of dread however; most situations can be dealt with using a little creative thinking or clever design, which satisfies both you and our furry friends.
Our professional (CIEEM) bat licensed ecologists will undertake an initial building assessment at any time of year. In the event of evidence of bats being found, further bat emergence surveys may be required; this will include up to three surveys during May-September at dusk/dawn.
Bat Development Licence
When damage to a bat roost is going to occur, a Bat Development Licence will be required. Sylvan Ecology has experience of acting as a named consultant on licence applications.
A mitigation strategy is required for development licence applications. Mitigation Strategies provide opportunities for creative solutions for new habitat and roosts for bats. Bat boxes and even bat houses can sometimes be cost-effective options.
We have a proven track record of successful bat licence application and implementation.
Bats play an important role in many environments around the world; sometimes even being a keystone species. Some plants also depend partly or wholly on bats to pollinate their flowers or spread their seeds, while other bats help to control pests by eating insects.
